TVR is an independent British automotive company, based in Blackpool, Lancashire until 2006. The company produces light sports cars.
Trevor Wilkinson was born in Blackpool and left school at the age of 14 to begin engineering training in his local garage.

In 1946 he bought the Blackpool business, renaming it Trevcar Motors in 1947, to sell and repair cars and manufacture cars. In 1947, the first model of the company was presented. It was a light alloy car based on Alvis Firebird chassis.

In 1949, the company was renamed to TVR Engineering. The name of the company comes from the founder – TreVoR – TVR.

By 1956, TVR was already sold in the U.S., and in 1958 production of the Grantura model began. By the mid-60s, about 100 Grantura cars were produced. In Le Mans in 1962, the company TVR Engineering took part, presenting the racing cars Grantura.

In 1963, the Griffith model appeared, named after Jack Griffith – American car dealer. In 1965, the company was going through hard times, and financial problems almost led to the bankruptcy of the company.

The management of TVR changed: Arthur Lilly became a major shareholder of TVR and his son Martin became a dealer. After the change in management, the company’s sales began to grow.

The Grantura and Griffith models were withdrawn from production, while the Vixen and Tuscan V8 came on line.
