Over the course of their lives, Emmeria’s Phantom fleet received comprehensive avionic upgrades and two major SLEP’s. Despite this modernization effort, the type was already seen as a lumbering relic in light of newer airframes like the Tomcat and Eagle. The last of the F-4E’s, relegated as reserve aircraft, were retired in 2012.
