The sqadron was born in 1942, they referred to as themselves “Sundowners”, throughout WWII they shot down many Japanese plane. On the image there are two Corsairs, capturing a “rising solar” into the ocean. And that rising solar is on the tail too. It is one of the recognisable insignia.
Miss Molly was a specifically painted plane (CAG fowl) that includes noseart along with full color markings.
