Ok-284 Akula was the lead ship within the Soviet submarine class Undertaking 971 Щука-Б (Shchuka-B, ‘Shchuka’ which means pike, NATO reporting title “Akula”).
The ship was laid down in 6 November 1983 and was commissioned within the Pacific Fleet on 30 December 1984. The submarine was 12-15 dB quieter than the earlier technology of Soviet submarines. Ok-284 served within the Soviet Fleet till the collapse of the Soviet union in 1991 after which continued to serve within the Russian navy. The submarine was decommissioned in 2001.
