Conrail Cement Hopper

The Consolidated Rail Company, higher generally known as merely Conrail, was the federal government’s reply to the collapse of rail service within the northeast within the early Nineteen Seventies. After choosing up the items of the collapsed Penn Central and bankrupt Erie Lackawanna, Lehigh Valley, Studying, Central Railroad of New Jersey, and Lehigh & Hudson River the corporate was in a position to lastly flip a revenue by the top of 1981, 5 1/2 years after starting operations on April 1, 1976. Within the mid-Nineties the now worthwhile Conrail was cut up up between Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation with the railroads taking up their respective halves on June 1, 1999.
