The Consolidated Rail Company, higher often known as merely Conrail, was the federal government’s reply to the collapse of rail service within the northeast within the early Nineteen Seventies. After choosing up the items of the collapsed Penn Central and bankrupt Erie Lackawanna, Lehigh Valley, Studying, Central Railroad of New Jersey, and Lehigh & Hudson River the corporate was capable of lastly flip a revenue by the tip of 1981, 5 1/2 years after starting operations on April 1, 1976.
