The PKM (ПК Модернизированный: “Kalashnikov’s Machine-gun Modernized”), was adopted into service in 1969. The PKM is a modernized, product-improved model of the PK. The upgrades, primarily aimed toward lowering the burden, simplifying manufacturing, and facilitating simpler operation. The receiver cowl turned extra inflexible as a result of lengthwise ribs. The butt was fitted with a hinged butt-rest. The barrel fluting was omitted and the flash hider was modified. In a while the PKM was outfitted with a brand new black glass-filled polyamide buttstock and pistol grip formed just like the beforehand used laminated wood inventory and grip.
