On this page you will find a complete guide to mini-games, one of the side quests of GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony. For each one, the rules of the game are explained and useful tips to win a game.
The mini-games will be marked on the game map using special icons, shown in the table.
To receive 5.71% of the game completion statistics, you must win at least once in each of the four mini-games.
Air Hockey
The air hockey minigame can be activated in the two Memory Lanes rooms.
One is located on the pier of Firefly Island, in Broker, while the other is located at the Golden Pier, in Algonquin, not far from the golf course.
The air hockey minigame consists of hitting the so-called “puck” to score into the opponent’s net.
With the left analog stick you can manage Luis’ movements, while with the right stick you can hit the puck with force.
In order to win a game, you will have to make optimal use of both the bank shot and the defensive position.
Try to advance with the puck up to the middle of the field of play, then hit the puck sideways with the right stick and using the opposite side of the opponent’s position.
In case your challenger is moved to the right, position yourself to the right of the puck and quickly move the right analog stick to the left to hit the bank and take your opponent by surprise.
After hitting the puck, move into a defensive position in your area. Also be very careful not to hit the puck incorrectly, causing an own goal.
Billiards
The billiards minigame can only be played at the Homebrew Café in Beechwood City.
Each game is played with 15 numbered billiards (one black, 7 full and 7 rifled) and one white ball, known as a wing ball.
The latter will be the ball to be hit with the cue, so as to hit other balls and send them into the hole.
If a full ball is thrown first, all those of the same type will be the objectives of the player, while those scratched will be the objectives of the opponent and vice versa.
You can use two different views, a first-person view and an “overview” that will frame the playing board from above. When a foul is committed, the turn passes to the opponent.
If a ball is correctly packed, the current player continues the turn.
After you have posted the balls of your type, you must post the black ball number 8.
As shown in the sixth , in case Henrique or Armando packs the black and white balls in the same shot, you win the game.
Darts
The darts minigame can be played in the two Irish pubs in Liberty City.
One is Lucky Winkles, located between Galveston Avenue and Hell Gate in the Purgatory district, while the other is Steinway Beer Garden located in Dukes.
The scoreboard is divided into 20 sectors and a series of concentric circles.
Hitting the outer ring divided into small green and red sectors will double the points for the arrow just thrown, hitting the inner ring will triple them.
The center will be worth 25 points, while the full circle will be worth 50 points. The aim of the game is to reduce your score to zero, from a starting total of 301 points.
To win the game you will also need to make a “double” shot. For example, in case you are missing 40 points to win, you will have to hit the “double” sector of the number 20.
In this scheme we have simplified everything.
It is advisable to score as many points as possible from the first round.
The maximum score you can get is 60, hitting the triple zone of the sector dedicated to the number 20.
The game will inform you, at the end of each throw, the score made and the missing points, useful in particular to calculate the last throw.
By pressing the appropriate button marked on the screen Luis will improve his aim for about one second.
Golf
The golf minigame can only be played at the Golden Pier in Algonquin after Tony’s “Practice Swing” mission.
Luis can play alone against one of the club members or challenge his friends Armando and Henrique.
The trophy/achievement “Kill that precision!” will be unlocked as soon as you hit four flags.
There will be ten shots available, with scores based on the distance between the ball and the hole.
Hitting the flag will give you five bonus points. Use the button marked on the screen to bring the view closer and place the white circle exactly at the base of the flag.
Then press the button to advance and start the swing, trying to re-press the button exactly when it will coincide with the black indicator on the bar.
The margin of error is very low, we are talking about a few millimeters, so you will need to be quite precise if you want to make a perfect shot.
An alternative technique will be to place the marker just before the flag, in order to bounce the ball on the turf hoping that it will then hit the flag itself.
A third alternative will be opposite to the previous one, i.e. placing the marker beyond the flag but hitting with less power.
In case you don’t succeed on the first attempt, don’t despair, just a bit of training will be enough to understand the mechanism.
